What we collect, and why
If you just browse, we ask you for nothing personal and you stay anonymous to us — we do count page views and a few actions, without cookies (see "Analytics" below). If you create an account we store your email and display name (to sign you in), your favorites, "been there" check-ins and Top 10 (so the site can remember your taste), and any reviews you write (so others can read them). Legal basis: your consent when you sign up, and our legitimate interest in running the guide.
Where your data lives
Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers located outside Saudi Arabia. By creating an account you consent to this cross-border transfer — we keep what we store to the minimum the features need.
Location
"Near me" and distance sorting use your browser's location permission. Your coordinates are used on your device only and are never sent to or stored on our servers.
Cookies & local storage
We don't use tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner — our analytics is cookieless too. Your browser's local storage keeps functional things only: theme, language, favorites, check-ins, recent venues, a random device token for poll voting, and feature flags. None of it identifies you to us.
Analytics
We use Plausible to see how the guide is doing: page views, plus a short list of actions — which place was opened, which filters were used, whether a search found anything. Plausible sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses, and can't follow you to other sites.
We never send it the words you type. A search or a question is reduced in your browser before anything leaves it, to three things: roughly how many words it was, whether it was Arabic or English, and how many results came back. Plausible processes this outside Saudi Arabia.
Polls
Voting on a "Settle it" poll needs no account. A vote stores only the random device token and the chosen place. A poll stops taking votes 48 hours after it's created, and it and its votes are deleted after that.
Your rights
You can download everything we hold about you (Settings → "Download my data") and delete your account — deletion removes your profile and all your reviews, permanently. For anything else, email us and we'll answer within 30 days.
No marketing without asking
We never send marketing email unless you explicitly opted in, and unsubscribing is one tap. We don't sell your data, and the only companies that ever touch it are the two that run the site: Firebase and Plausible, both described above.
